Welcome to Avenue Road: Home of the Lions!

Avenue Road Public School is a K-8 school which first opened its doors in 1960. It has an approximate student population of 450 and roughly 50 staff members. The school is located just off of Avenue Road, which made choosing the name an easy decision. Since 1960, three additions have been added: one in 1963, another in 1980 and a third in 2012 to eventually accommodate the intermediate grades (7 & 8). In addition to Avenue Road’s students, we also welcome students from Manchester Public School and Elgin Street Public School (non-French Immersion) upon completion of grade 6. Following graduation, most of our students pursue their high school studies at GCI (Galt Collegiate Institute).

Avenue Road prides itself as a culturally diverse school with opportunities abounding for all interests, be they athletics, music, leadership or the arts. We believe that all children can learn and we strive to discover manners to engage our students in order to daily pique their interests. We hold our staff and students to a high standard, recognizing that growth occurs through risk-taking and learning from mistakes.

Our parents and guardians are exceptional partners with our school staff, providing support for many of our traditional events such as the Galt skating races, pizza days, field trips, track and field days, our annual school picnic in June and grade 8 graduation.

Beginning in the 2017-18 school year, Avenue Road adopted the HERO Generation framework, developed by Plasticity Labs of Waterloo. It provides language, education and supports to develop the traits of Hope, Efficacy, Resilience, Optimism, Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. These social-emotional traits have been found to be key predictors of happiness and performance, results we want to see in each and every one of our students.
